As a BNI member of approx. 1 year, I would like to share one of my BNI success testimonies. Upon my first visit to the BNI Money Makers chapter, I was given the chance to do my 60 second commercial on behalf of First Federal Savings Bank. Everyone at that chapter was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. After that first visit, I had pretty well made up my mind that the Money Maker’s Chapter was a chapter that I would like to be a part of.

Upon arriving back at my office after the very positive meeting, I received a phone call from another visitor who had visited the same chapter that morning. He said he had been very impressed with my 60 second commercial and he was interested in learning more about my bank as he was very unhappy with his current bank.

After a couple more phone calls and a follow up meeting, I was able to switch this visitor over to our bank from one of our competitors. Since that time, we have developed not only their business deposits and business loans, but their personal banking business as well. He has become one of First Federal’s best customers and all because of a visit we both made to a BNI meeting on the same day. Obviously the moral to this story is every visitor is not only a potential BNI member, but also a potential customer to all BNI members and their visitors as well.

I am so glad that two ladies from Paducah, KY decided to drive to Bowling Green, KY in order to learn about BNI and bring it back here to us. The BNI Impact Chapter in Paducah, KY is just under a year old and already I have met people that I would not have met, had it not been for BNI, and have received referrals that I would not have otherwise had an opportunity to get. Participating in the Pacesetter program from the State Auto Insurance Company I was required to join a BNI group. Having never heard of BNI I was not sure what I was committing too. At the end of my Pacesetter year I had written just over $160,000 of new business, with 40% of that coming from BNI referrals. With that type of new volume I earned an incentive vacation for my family. Without the referrals that came through BNI I would not have been able to reach my goal or earn the vacation. I enjoyed the training and learned a lot that I could relate to and have seen in our BNI Group as a new member. I now understand why some of my own thought processes about referrals were wrong. I had been only thinking on a Tier 1 level and had a self perception that most all of my referrals would only be coming from within the BNI group. This thought led me to believe BNI was a group purchasing goods and services from each other which is definitely NOT the case. The referral confidence curve got my train of thought in sync with the real BNI world. I also see with the amount of tier 1 referrals I have had so far, BNI could be the start of major business success especially since my business is new and I am new to the area.

I also absorbed the 60 Second Commercial Outline Part IV (the ask) like a sponge. This helped me think in more precise terms of what I am looking for in referrals and how to present it to my group.

Prior to this training, I thought my 10 minute presentation should show how to be a Jeweler. Fact is we should talk about our services (LCD) and provide information that equips our BNI group to provide service oriented well targeted referrals and recognize when they are in the midst of a good referral for us.

By far the biggest impact is the refined focus on a target industry/client. This gives the members an exact customer and type with which they can assist in referring. I also really liked the "ASK" which again tells each member exactly what I need. Not only can it generate a possible hot lead if a member knows the targeted business owner, but the other members get the message of the targeted business that they should know business owners which they can contact and generate referrals. This will result in a much more productive 60 sec commercial.

Likewise, expanding this approach into the 10 minute presentations and telling the members what to say and what to look for will definitely increase the feedback and referrals from the presentations.

I joined BNI in March of this year and it has been a fantastic experience. My Chapter “Money Makers” was created in April, we all had the training with Bart Giles and it fills like we are family, helping one another to be successful in every one of our professions and businesses.
I have been working hard to build the trust doing lots of one on ones and, working with two power teams, and is been worth it because I have been getting good referrals and I am projecting for the end of the year to meet my goals. So far my sales has been increased
45 %, since I joined BNI.

There is another chapter in Evansville, and my wife Ines just joined few weeks ago so we are looking to double the amount of referrals per week.

I joined BNI in early 2002, just after starting my estate planning law practice. BNI was a perfect fit for me for several reasons. First, because I had just left a career working as an executive for an insurance company, I wasn't connected to other local business professionals. BNI connected me. Second, I needed to build my business through referrals. BNI provided the mechanism to do that. Third, I needed access to a local professional support group. BNI provided that access.
